One person was gunned down while two others sustained varied degrees of injuries on Tuesday night during a fire exchange between residents of Tatale Sanguli in the Northern Region and some suspected armed robbers, Adom News reported.
The incident took place in Ghana.
The Tatale Sanguli District Police Commander, ASP Eric Akwaboah confirmed the that the incident happened at 20:00 GMT on Tuesday when two men armed with guns and cutlasses mounted roadblocks at an outskirt of a village called Benlador – few meters from the district capital – and was demanding money and seizing motorbikes.
A resident managed to escape the attack and spread the news in the village leading to some residents arming themselves to face off with the persons who were suspected to be armed robbers.
Two of the residents were accosted on their way to the scene with their motorcycle and hacked by the suspects. This residents however returned the fire but the robbers fled into a bush. The injured, he said raised alarm and more villagers thronged to the scene with weapons and pursued the attackers.
One armed robber, ASP Eric Akwaboa said was found dead during the search near a stream around a village. The two injured villagers identified as Nfobil and Ndombe are currently receiving treatment at the Tatale Health Centre.
