Having almost £200 million to spend on new recruits is all well and good, but the Brazilian is widely regarded as the world’s third best player and, if anything, irreplaceable.
Neymar possesses the perfect blend of speed, skill and finishing that saw him become a world-class talent at Barcelona, who will struggle to find anything close.
Where potential signings are concerned, there are a number of players on Barcelona's radar.
Philippe Coutinho has been hotly linked with a move to the Camp Nou and he further fuelled those rumours today by being left out of Liverpool's squad to face Athletic Bilbao.
Injury is the reason for his absence according to the PLURALTRENDS.com, but they suggest that might not be the whole story.
Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe are also targets for manager Ernesto Valverde, who would need to splash in excess of €100 million to sign either of them.
And then there's Juventus striker Paulo Dybala, who is seen as the natural heir to Lionel Messi's throne in Catalonia and would also cost €100 million plus.

But who do Barcelona fans want their club to sign as Neymar's replacement? Well, that was the question asked by Spanish daily AS this week.
Much like how they asked Real Madrid fans recently if they want to sell Gareth Bale, AS created a poll to discover who the Barcelona faithful want this summer.
And of the 40,000 votes received, one name came out on top with 13,000 (37%): Paulo Dybala.
Antoine Griezmann surprisingly came second with 10,000 votes, while Mbappe came third and Coutinho came fourth.
So, the fans have spoken - they want Barcelona to sign Dybala, which makes sense given the consensus that he’s the 'next Messi'.
